Minoan Deities as Benefactors

In Ariadne's Tribe, we associate various animals, plants, and objects with our deities: the griffin with Therasia, the staff with Korydallos, geese and white and yellow flowers with Antheia, for instance. These items help us identify the deities in Minoan art. In that sense, they're kind of like name tags or labels.

But there's another collection of attributes that we associate with our deities as well. Like the ones I just mentioned, these can also help us identify the deity or their domain in the art. But more importantly, they indicate a special type of relationship between the deity and the humans who work in certain occupations or who raise certain food crops.

Spell for Attracting New Love

To attract new love, two nights before the full moon, take a small pink votive candle and place it inside your cauldron or any large metal pot. Lay a rose and a bell beside the cauldron and your altar. Use either rose or apple blossom essential oil to anoint the candle’s wick. For the next two nights, light the candle, cup it in your hands, and direct loving thoughts into its flame. On the night of the full moon, take a thorn from the rose and carve the name of your heart’s desire into the candle’s wax, reciting:

I will find true love.

Heart of Samhain

They enter from opposite ends of the circle: he in antlers and bare chest, she shrouded in shadow.

A flute sings. They join hands and dance.

Their dance ended, she reaches into his chest. He gives an involuntary, back-of-the-throat groan, and falls back.

Over him, she opens her hand: an apple, pulsing in the firelight. I wince at the juicy squelching noises as she cuts it up.

The pieces pass. We eat. On my palate, dull from fasting, the juice sings like autumn rain.

We dedicate ourselves
to the path of the everyday mystic
in the temple of the ordinary,
this earth,
a teacher and guide,
these stars,
our rosary,
this sky a chapel of awe,
this ground,
a temple of wisdom.
We are disciples of the daily,
acolytes of joy,
students of the sacred,
right where we are,
our lives and landscapes
a holy text of being.

So happy to announce the release of my newest book of poems: In the Temple of the Ordinary, vol. 2! It is available right now via Amazon and Barnes and Noble and also open for pre-order on Kindle.

Seeking and Finding Love Spell

On a small piece of paper, write the name of your would-be love in red ink and roll up the scroll. Anoint the paper with rose or amber essential oil. Tie the scroll with red threads, incanting one line of the following spell per knot:

One to seek my love, one to find my love,

True Love's Kiss: A Date Night Ritual

As the world starts to heal, perhaps you are thinking about meeting that special someone for a face-to-face date for the first time in a very long while. And you, clever one, planned it on a new moon night. If this new moon happens to be in the signs of Taurus, Scorpio, Libra, or Pisces, you are really in for a treat tonight! Here is the last-minute preparation to guarantee you will have the time of your life. Gather the following ritual elements:

  • 2 red candles
  • Your favorite essential oil (mine is vamber, a concoction of equal parts vanilla and amber oils that makes me feel instantly erotic)
  • Thorn of a rose

Take the two red candles and anoint them with your essential oil. Take the thorn and scratch your name on one candle and your lover’s name on the other. Anoint yourself between your breasts and over your heart, and then speak these words aloud twice:

Las Vegas Pagan Pride Day is Back

I'll be signing my book Asatru: A Beginner's Guide to the Heathen Path at Las Vegas Pagan Pride Day, November 11, 2023, at Paradise Park. I'm really excited! This is the first time my local PPD has been back since the pandemic started. It's an outdoor event so it's among the safer choices for pandemic safety, but because it's outdoors Las Vegas holds our PPD in November rather than September like most other cities do. I've been wanting to sign my book at my local PPD since my book came out, but since my book came out in 2020 I didn't get a chance to do that before now. I'll also be making a short presentation about Asatru and answering questions as part of my booksigning.

My new book is a longer, updated version of my out-of-print book Asatru For Beginners. Asatru: A Beginner's Guide to the Heathen Path is available in print, ebook, audiobook, and audio CD.
