The Eyes Have It

What do you see when you look into your own eyes?  Do you take the time to stare into a mirror at your own eyes, your own face?  If the eyes are the mirror of the soul, what do your eyes say about you?

My life is busy without a doubt.  I rush off in the morning to work.  Rush through my day helping faculty, students, staff, student workers, and the public.  I'm at the center of a maelstrom of activity.  I come home to cram in an hour or so of quality time with my husband.  After he goes to bed, I might manage to take a breath and think about ME or the state of my soul.

Objects can hold power, and collect energy.  In "The Magick of Making", we explored how magick can be instilled into artwork by the maker.  But what if you're not an artist/maker? And what about items that weren't originally made with magical intent but take on meaning for you?

Even if you don't consider yourself a "material" person, there is undoubtedly some sort of token that means more than the sum of its parts to you: your grandmother's thimble, a book from your father, the feather you found on the street on that really rough day, the rock from the hike you went on during that vacation, your "lucky" sweater.

Whether an item is made by humans, manufactured by machine, or created by nature, it has the potential for meaning, and meaning can be acquired most typically via association or by function.

Can You Imagine a Society of Peace? by Carol P. Christ

As war and the fruits of war, including hatred and the desire for vengeance, threaten our human community, I take this opportunity republish a vision of a Society of Peace. If we cannot imagine a Society of Peace, we will never be able to create one. Can you imagine that:

As a child, you would not have to fight with your sisters or brothers for your father’s or your mother’s attention. You would not have one mother but many as you would be raised in a large extended family. Both girls and boys would be equally loved and cherished by their mothers and grandmothers and by their uncles and great-uncles. Both girls and boys would know that they would always have a place in the maternal clan. As a boy or a girl you would never have to “separate from” or “reject” your mother in order to “prove yourself as an individual” or in order to “grow up.” You could grow up without severing the bond with the ones who first loved you and first cared for you.

Revisiting CHARGING Crystal

This week, the "planned" post was going to be about crystals with Inclusions. As you might have already figured out, this isn't that post.

In the last few weeks, we have been winding up the talk on the individual configurations and their metaphysical meanings. Which (if you've noticed) is the reason the past few posts have been out of alphabetical order (I am picking up crystals I didn't cover for one reason or another). However, there are three reasons I decided to revisit charging crystals this week, instead: #1 my mind has been on the Moon phase (more than usual) lately, #2 the Full Moon is coming up, and #3 a friend asked a question about charging.
