Some say magic isn't something you do, it's something you are. Others say that their entire life is magical. While this might be correct for them, I would respectfully disagree that this doesn't work for me. I want my magic to be magical; I don't want to have to bring leaky faucets and flat tires into my magical realm. Having said that, there is a chance every moment to do something mystical, to connect with the nature spirits and the ancestors, to honor the old ways, and to walk the crooked path. This blog is about my journey, and how I celebrate the magic in the mundane.

Readings as Gifts?

At this time of year a lot of people have been asking me if they can purchase a gift voucher or some other way of getting a reading for a loved one as a holiday gift. The answer is yes! Most psychics and readers will gladly do readings for others as gifts. There are some pointers that need attention, though.

The first is know the psychic. This is probably the statement I'm repeating the most often through through this series. Just like a favorite restaurant or hairdresser, it's important that you know the person from whom you are purchasing services, or at least have solid referrals about them. Remember, choosing a reader is like choosing a hairdresser; find one whom you like, with whom you gel, and stick with them.

When purchasing a reading for someone else, it's a bit like you are playing matchmaker. If you know someone who is passionate about astrology readings, getting her a reading from your favorite Tarot card reader may not be the best match, unless the person for whom you are getting the reading is open to trying something new. Likewise, if you want to get a Tarot reading for someone, there is probably little point in approaching a medium. Different readers have different skills.

It's possible to physically take the person for whom you are buying the reading to the reader, and this often works well. I've done this on occasions where it's been a very festive and party-like atmosphere and everyone involved had a great time. Sometimes the person having the reading wants something more private, though. Remember, you are getting this as a gift for them, not purchasing entertainment for yourself. Respect his or her wishes if she wants to see the reader privately.

Telephone readings are another option. You can pre-pay the reader for an allotted amount of time, and the reader can then liaise with the person you have gifted to set up when to do the readings. Individual readers will often work this way, and also some of the big national companies will allow you to do this, too. You simply open an account for the person for whom you are buying the reading, prepay a set amount to the company, and then the reading can be done at the client's convenience. All he or she has to do is telephone the service using the account you opened.

Email readings are another great options for gifts, particularly at this time of year. A lot of people want to know what is coming up in the year ahead, and many an astrologer, Tarot consultant, or other reader will offer personal profiles of what is in store over the next few months. These can usually be purchased directly from the reader. Again, though, choose the reader carefully; remember, you are purchasing the reading as a gift for someone else. Make sure that the reader offers what the recipient is seeking.

The holiday season can be a great time for peeking into the future, and for sharing this insight with others who are interested in learning more about themselves and what is upcoming in their lives. By purchasing a reading for yourself or a loved one, you're not only investing in your own future, but also ensuring that strong links with a good consultant are being forged for the months to come. It's a great way to support local businesses, too!
