A Gift From the Cailleach

Posted by on in Paths Blogs

As we approach Winter Solstice there are many wonderful tales to tell. Tales that have been shared around fires for thousands of years.I have been working a lot creating prayer beads and this is a rather special limited edition set inspired by the Cailleach. They were made on the day of the full moon and now in the time of the waning moon as we approach the Winter Solstice the white moonstone holds that magic of the stillness and quiet this time of year can offer if we step away from the maddening crowds and take our inspiration from the landscape whose trees and plants have returned deep down to their roots.

There is only one set left of these limited edition beads and they come as a Winter Solstice Bundle with a set of Cailleach cards and a small bottle o water from Allt Caillich, the stream of the Cailleach which runs by Tigh na Bodach, the shrine of the Cailleach which is said could be thousands of years old.

The guided meditation (see below) tells a little of what the Cailleach is up to these days.

If you'd like to take a journey with the Cailleach you can now take the Cailleach course as a go at your own pace course - you'll have access to the materials for the next couple of years so ample time to revisit. Click on the image to read more and to register.

Jude Lally is a forager of stories. You’ll find her out wandering the hills around Loch Lomond, reading the signs that guide her to stories in the land.

As a Cultural Activist, she draws upon the inspiration from old traditions to meet current needs.
She uses keening as a grief ritual, a cathartic ritual to express anger, fear, and despair for all that is unfolding within the great unraveling.
As a doll maker, she views this practice as one that stretches back to the first dolls which may have been fashioned from bones and stones and ancient stone figurines such as the Woman of Willendorf. She uses dolls as a way of holding and exploring our own story, and relationship to the land as well as ancestral figures.

She gained her MSc Masters Degree in Human Ecology at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) and lives on the West Coast of Scotland on the banks of the River Clyde, near Loch Lomond. She is currently writing her first book, Path of the Ancestral Mothers.

Thank you. The guided meditation and music was beautiful. I have been connecting with the Cailleach for the past few dark seasons - trying to overcome my aversion to winter's cold and harsh landscape. It's helping.
