Blame it on the Thanksgiving holiday but this New Moon snuck up on me and catches  me behind schedule. Well, it’s got my attention now and focused on Monday, December 2nd, at 7:22 PM here in the EST time zone.

The chart shows the Sun and Moon conjunct at 10 degrees Sagittarius. I always recommend looking at our natal charts to see where the New Moon falls, which House? or in close aspect to which other planets? This will help us compose a personal link with this powerful time for setting intention. This is the best time of the month to nurture ourselves by looking inward for a higher, “big-picture” truth about where we are and where our trajectory is taking us.

I just took a quick look at my natal chart and discovered the New Moon is “sitting on” my MC (the top of the chart) at 11 degrees Sagittarius (with an exact opposition to Jupiter). This important point in all charts symbolizes the intersection where an individual meets the outer world and in that meeting offers their gifts to society. It’s often considered an indicator of what would be a personally flowing career focus, especially if there are no planets in the house of career, the 10th. In my case the 10th is empty so I would look to the MC for definition in how I best relate to the world. With Jupiter the ruler of Sagittarius I would want to be a leader, at times passionate about my causes, one to uplift, inspire  and serve others. Seems like an important and worthy focus for me this New Moon.

Let’s look at the larger picture of the energies of Sagittarius and its ruler, Jupiter. In astrology’s definition there are two aspects of the mind, the lower and the higher. The lower is ruled by Mercury and the higher, by Jupiter. The opposing houses ruled by these planets are the Third for Mercury and the 9th, Jupiter. Picture Mercury in charge when we are talking to others regarding the practical, everyday needs and events of our lives. When we’re thinking with our higher mind we are focused on big-picture concepts and inspirations. Here the mind is potentially uplifted by Jupiter’s energy to involve contact with the unseen world, such as angels and spirit guides. At the least there is interest in understanding a deeper meaning of human life on planet Earth. An individual with planets in the 9th House will be looking for spiritual experience that is uniquely theirs, not based on dogmatic religious belief.

So this New Moon offers all of us a chance to nurture our faith in life, our positive beliefs and visions for what our lives can mean. The question of destiny could arrive. Are we aligned with a larger sense of life purpose, of sharing our innate gifts and enthusiasms? Are we remembering the interconnectivity of all life forms here on planet Earth? Do we take responsibility for the attitude and energetics we take with us when we interact with others? Does our work in the world match our true gifts enough to feed our spirit while it also gives material support?

It’s not easy to stay connected to our highest and greatest good in every moment but ultimately we can’t let external events or people have the power to throw us off of it either. This takes dedication and vigilance. Sagittarius energy is also forward thinking and moving so will help us now to move away from the past, especially those parts that linger in our negative attitudes and habits. So find your wings and fly higher. Jupiter’s
