Pagan News Beagle: Earthy Thursday, February 16 2017

A baby elephant makes a heartening recovery after being injured by poachers. A father explains how he relates science concepts to his kid through superheroes. And the idea of a "global warming pause" is debunked. It's Earthy Thursday, our segment on science and Earth related news. All this and more for the Pagan News Beagle!

When an endangered animal encounters poachers the result is almost always tragic. But this story has a happy ending. A baby elephant found shot in the legs in Kenya was rescued and has now made a nearly full recovery.

President Trump and others have made various claims that immigrants are bringing crime, violence, and drugs to the United States. But is that actually true? Accumulated data suggests no, it isn't.

To a large degree we leave our science education up to schools. But sometimes they don't provide us with enough information and it can be helpful to receive learning from other sources too. Evan Narcisses talks at io9 about teaching his daughter about science through their shared interest in superheroes.

After the polls narrowly failed to predict President Trump's win in the electoral college many are turning a skeptical eye towards the entire idea of polling. But in fact, the practice has a lot of merit and not just for presidential races.

A lot of fuss has been made by some global warming denialists about the so-called "global warming pause" when heat levels ceased to rise. But it didn't actually happen.

Aryós Héngwis (or the more modest Héngwis for short) is a native of the Pontic-Caspian steppe, born some 5000 years ago, near the village of Dereivka. In his youth he stood out from the other snakes for his love of learning and culture, eventually coming into the service of the local reǵs before moving westward toward Europe. Most recently, Aryós Héngwis left his home to pursue a new life in America, where he has come under the employ of BBI Media as an internet watchdog (or watchsnake, if you will), ever poised to strike the unwary troll.
