When an aquaintence of mine invited me to write for this blog site, I was unsure of what value I could contribute.  Between you and me, I'm still not.  If someone figures it out along the way, please take a moment to let me know!

I can begin by telling you who I am.  I am an American male in my thirties.  I am in better shape than some by virtue of a career in the armed forces, and worse shape than others by virtue of hating the gym in all of its incarnations.  I am a hockey fan, I enjoy music in every genre, and I drive a Jeep.  I could be your next door neighbor (if you lived in a military town, that is).

If you met me once, or twice, or even a dozen times, you might not know I am a heathen.  I wear my Mjolnir necklace inside my shirt most of the time, and make no effort to include obscure references to Norse myth in my daily conversations.  I don't say "Hail" when meeting my friends.  The gods and wights have never heard me exclaim "By Odin's beard!" when I am surprised or curse "Thor strike you down!" when I am angry.  In fact, there is rarely any indication to the public that my religious preference is outside the American mainstream.  The reason is not fear of rejection, or lack of zeal, or any such nonsense.  I just don't care for That Guy and don't want to be Him.

My plan is to write this blog from my common-sense and practical approach to my faith.  It is unlikely to contain any deeply academic explorations of heathenry in the Viking era- I am a modern believer in an old faith, and that does not require eating what Vikings ate or dressing up in period clothing.  I am also unlikely to blog about rune-craft, Spaecraft, Seidhr, or much else on the metaphysical side of my faith- while it is no less important to me than communion or baptism are to Christians, in my experience the mystic parts of heathenry too often end up in the hands and hearts of people who are at odds with how I see those subjects and so choose to avoid them.

All of that said, welcome.  I hope I write something of value here for you all, and that you enjoy my postings.
