My Heathen Life in October 2024

Posted by on in Paths Blogs

Since this is Gnosis Diary I've gotta tell you about gnosis once in a while.

My autumn gnosis experience was about cats. Remember my cat Happy had told me he wanted to return to Earth and I would know which one. Well I was scrolling through the Sin City Witches social media group and a member posted she had kittens to give away. There was a blurry photo of a tiny black fuzzball reaching claws toward the camera. I heard Happy tell me that was him. I contacted the kitten lady, and my housemate.

But then shortly he told me it wasn't really him. He had actually changed his mind and decided to stay with Freya in the afterlife. I told him I was really glad he told me that wasn't really him because if I got a kitty and thought it was him and it wasn't I would start off trying to build our relationship wrong because I wouldn't be considering the new kitty as a new kitty. I promised to visit Happy after I get to Asgard and told him that from his perspective it wouldn't be very long because he was now experiencing time like the gods do.

This mental conversation didn't take that long but when the other two humans got back to me, the little black kitten had already been claimed. One thing about offering kittens in a witch group, the black one gets adopted first. I told Happy I was really super glad he already told me that wasn't really him because if I thought he had reincarnated to come back to me and ended up with someone else I would have been heartbroken. But because it wasn't him I can be perfectly content with any kitties I happen to meet. I also told him I was glad he was enjoying his life with Freya and I thought he made the right decision.

My kindred, American Celebration Kindred, did our Rainbow Season ritual as a virtual ritual inside our online group this year. Since I was getting overwhelmed by too many events, and one of our members moved out of town and another one just had surgery, it made sense for us to do a virtual ritual.

These were the ritual instructions I wrote:

"Any time between now and renfaire (2nd weekend of October) participate by making a Rainbow Season toast and posting about it either on this thread or in the Event Planning chat (or both, if you like.)
Rainbow Season is the season that comes after the rainy season. We honor Heimdall, Guardian of the Rainbow Bridge. We honor other powers as each of us chooses.
Ritual toast beverage suggestions: to honor Heimdall, rum to represent his Mothers, or mead. To honor Heimdall's Guardians including Tom, root beer. To honor other powers, anything rainbow related, post-rain related, or autumnal."

And this was the post I made in the event chat after I did my toast to Heimdall:

"I made my toast to Heimdall. I didn't end up making any other toasts because we ended up having a conversation in my head and  so I was thinking about that afterwards. Also I have discovered that on [brand name of Gila Lizard Powers drug] I'm an extreme lightweight lol so one shot of that rum is all I could handle.

I toasted to Heimdall and we were discussing the message he gave me long ago to have humans stop sending their pets to wait for them where they weren't going themselves, and how humans didn't want to hear it. And recently as I was talking on social media about Tom going to become one of Heimdall's Guardians, someone said the Rainbow Bridge was not for humans, it was for pets. At the time, I kind of went on a rant about it as a comment but it didn't seem to do any good. I suggested someone needs to direct traffic to send misdirected pets where they need to go. Heimdall's Guardians are serious warriors, protectors, and not traffic cops, but Heimdall indicated there could be a position for that. I am dedicated to Odin so it can't be me, but Heimdall said when I first arrive in Asgard I could work with Tom for a bit to do some pet traffic direction before I go on to visit Odin and Freya (and my cats) and so forth. I checked with Odin and he agreed that was acceptable. There will be at least one permanent position for someone else to do the pet traffic direction."

On the morning of October 8, on Tyr's Day, I saw a sundog. Just one, so I was not sure what it was until I consulted the Cloud Appreciation Society by posting my photo. The day before I had been working on a post about fragrance as a gift for the gods and had been trying to come up with something for Tyr and Zisa, and had been thinking about how Zisa is associated with dogs and Tyr was the foster father of the Wolf. I feel that seeing the sundog at dawn the next morning was a sign and a blessing.

It was a rainbow sundog so it was also for Heimdall. I've never seen a sundog in real life before, only in photos. Sundogs are only seen when there are ice crystals in the air. They are super rare in southern Nevada.

I had been oddly restless and energetic before dawn that morning and decided to get up and photograph the dawn. There were beautiful clouds with virga all over the sky. I took lots of photos before I saw the sundog. This was a day on which the weather forecast was 0% chance of rain and an overnight low of 68, so ice crystals were unexpected. I posted the photos on my Facebook, Xitter, and Minds.

(The post I mentioned isn't finished yet, I'm still working on it. I'll be posting it here on my blog some time this year. First will come my report about my appearance at the Samhain Soiree and then my Happy Halloween post.)
