The Snake Equation, pictured above, is a meme of unknown origin circulating on the net. Because this meme shows this equation superimposed over classical art of Loki, it occurred to me that this equation in Chaos Theory could be considered a teaching of Loki. I tried to derive a spiritual truth from it that I could consider to be a teaching of Loki. I wrote a scene describing its meaning into my novel Some Say Fire, but since the book will probably never be published, I'd like to share this insight here on my blog.

If you look at it just right, the top line appears to spell "snake," hence the name of the equation. This is an equation in Chaos Theory. First I'm going to explain the terms, and then explain the spiritual meaning I have derived from this equation.

The S stands for chaos or entropy. Then there is pi (a constant for circles), times the area (of what's inside the circle), times k (Boltzmann's constant). C-cubed over G is a measure of curvature of space exerting force on all things within that space. All that is divided by 2 and by h (Planck's constant.)

This equation, therefore, measures the amount of chaos within a given circle. It teaches us that the more energy and the more stuff you have inside your circle, the more chaos you will have. The more energy (that is, heat) you have in your life, the more chaos you will have in your life. The more stuff (physical objects) you have in your life, the more chaos you will have in your life. You can adjust the amount of chaos you experience by adjusting the amount of stuff you have within your personal circle.

Get rid of things, and you get rid of their chaos. Emotionally detach from things, and you rid yourself of their attached chaos. The more simply you live, the less chaos you will have. This is a teaching of Loki.

Exciting news! August 1st is still the official launch date for my new book, Asatru: A Beginner's Guide to the Heathen Path, but I just found out preorders have shipped already! I went to a friend's house yesterday and there was my book! So excited! I signed it to her and we celebrated. My book is available online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Indiebound. Ask for it at your local bookstore or library.
