Creating beautiful craft items with flower petals, seeds and herbs is relatively easy, here are a few suggestions for you to try...

Flower Fascinations

Fascination means ‘to bewitch and hold spellbound’, they are flower spells and charms.

If you put together the knowledge you have on magical properties within flowers, herbs and plants it is easy to put together a flower fascination.  It doesn’t need to be fancy, just putting together corresponding flowers and herbs with the same intent into a vase will do the trick.  Put the vase somewhere that you will see it and visualise your intent each time you do.

Flower seeds can be added to medicine bags and charm bags then worn or kept with you.

Decorate a small besom or wreath with dried or fresh flowers with a particular intent in mind or to celebrate a Sabbat or honour a specific deity.

Keeping a dried poppy head in your purse for prosperity, tying a bunch of sage over the front door for protection, putting herbs in a sachet to keep in the car for safety and protection – all of these are simple flower fascinations.

Flower petal beads

You can make beautiful beads from flower petals and even from leaves.

Gather together the petals and/or leaves from your chosen plant or plants and chop them up until they are really fine.  Put the pieces in a food processor (or a blender) add a drop or two of water and pulse until you get a really fine texture, you may have to add more water, but do that a bit at a time so you don’t make it overly soggy.

Put the mixture into a saucepan and simmer for about an hour.  You may have to blend again after this until the mixture is really gooey and pasty.

Add a couple of drops of essential oil or food colouring at this stage if you would like to.

Then start forming the leafy/petal paste into bead shapes, small or large but bear in mind they will shrink about 25% during the drying process. Then using a needle string the beads onto a thread.

Leave the thread of beads in a dry place and turn the beads daily so that they dry out evenly.  You can charge the beads at this stage with your intent should you wish to do so.  They will take two to three weeks to dry out properly.

Bookmarks

Herbal book marks are fairly simple to make and are lovely to use with your Book of Shadows.

Using pieces of cardboard cut to the size you require.

Place a design of pressed and dried flowers and leaves onto the cardboard lay it out first to see what it looks like and so that you can re-arrange if necessary.  When you are happy glue each flower or leaf to the cardboard.  Once your design is finished you can cover the bookmark with sticky back plastic or pop it in the laminator.   I like to finish it off by making a hole at the bottom of the book mark (using one side of a hole punch) and then threading a piece of ribbon through.

Herb candles

I have made candles from scratch before…and have ruined decent saucepans in the process and covered myself and the kitchen in wax but if you like to make them with the melting and pouring method then adding herbs and flowers is easy.  You can fix petals and leaves to the inside of your moulds before you pour the wax in or add a mixture of dried herbs as you pour.  Each candle can be made for a specific intent by adding corresponding flowers or herbs.

However if you like a much simpler version (as I do) you can dress an already made candle with essential oil and roll the candle in a mixture of crushed herbs, flowers or spices.   If you are making something like a faerie wishes candle you could also add a bit of glitter to the mix too.
