PaganNewsBeagle Earthy Thursday Sept 11
Howdy, fellow Earthlings! Our Earthy Thursday post today has an amazing map, lots of recycling (not as simple as it sounds), and some amazing ideas for city parks in New York.
How better to start Earthy Thursday than a real time map that models the entire Earth? Any weather/climate watcher will go gaga over the models at http://earth.nullschool.net/about.html. Overlays for wind, temperature, relative humidity, total precipitable water, total cloud water, sea level pressure, and misery index (that's temperature + wind chill to describe weather that's miserably cold or hot). Wow!
Here's a fun video showing geology in real time action. Not often that the Earth elementals show Their hands quite so obviously but gently. (Earthquakes are obvious, but hardly benign.)
Is recycling good for the Earth? That would seem obvious (yes!) until you get into the nitty gritty details. (Moral of the story: recycling works a lot better as multi-stream sorted than single-stream, all in one bin.)
More on recycling: in Sweden, un-recyclable trash is incinerated to create power. Problem? The Swedes are so good at recycling that they now importing trash from other countries to keep the trash-to-energy plants fueled. See the details at this story on National Geographic.
New York City may look very different if these futuristic parks are built.
