New Moon Astrology: Co-creating with the Rhythms of Luna

The New Moon is a time for initiating and planting seeds in our lives; it is a symbolic time of personal rebirth. Metaphorically, it is the time of the Maiden, the new, fresh outgoing energy of the Triple Goddess. It's the optimum time to birth new intentions, set plans in motion, and state new goals. While the Moon is still dark (not visible) our seedling intentions can be nurtured and their roots can be strengthened. This blog will address the New Moon each month from an Astrological perspective, and how you can co-create with the natural rhythms to manifest your highest intent. Each Moon will correspond to a Guiding Goddess Archetype that resonates with the current astrological energies.

Supermoon in Aquarius and Sun Signs for the Week of August 10th

Full Supermoon in Aquarius: A Turning Point

Although the Full Moon is not until tomorrow morning (August 10th) at 11:09 am (PDT) I thought you might want to get a jump on what this Moon is all about, because we're already feeling it today, and will be until at least Tuesday.  First of all, this is a Supermoon, appearing bigger, brighter, and closer in the night sky than usual. Full Moons illuminate hidden potential, and often bring something important to a culmination point. Stay tuned for sudden realizations, a solution to a seeming dilemma, or a catalyst that pushes you definitively in one direction or another. A Supermoon has an even more intense effect, expect a turning point.

The Aquarius Moon highlights our urge to be wholly and completely ourselves. This energy opens us up to radical individuality, and we will be prompted to challenge anything (or anyone) that stands in the way of our full expression of originality and independence. This is the Moon that reminds you that you came here for a reason, and only YOU can fulfill your unique purpose/contribution. Remember what that is, it is important.  And, then figure out what is required to get back on track and do what you came here to do.  We need you!

This particular Aquarius Moon is square Saturn, opposite Mercury, and sextiling Uranus (Aquarius’ ruling planet). Many of us, especially those of us with Aquarius significantly placed in our charts, will be feeling up against something that feels constricting. This is the time to push something through, and show up as you intend. This could be in your relationship, your job, community, or extricating yourself from bureaucratic red tape. Wherever you have 18 degrees Aquarius in your chart will show you the area of your life you need to liberate yourself. And, because Aquarius is the sign of “The Cause”, it might not just be you that you see in need of liberation. This Full Moon could see nations and communities rallying for justice. Keep an eye on world events, as something pivotal reaches a culmination point or crescendo. Saturn is the iron fist of the establishment, status quo and government that this rebellious Moon chafes against. On the upside, this Full Moon is perfect for getting together with a group of kindred spirits for a barbeque, or some political consciousness raising, maybe both at the same time!

Aries and Aries Rising

This Full Moon lights up your house of hopes, dreams, goals and friends.  You have had a vision, or an idea, and now you see how you can take that to the wider world. Your ideas are revolutionary, ground breaking in some way, and you now draw like-minded people to you to make it happen.  It’s time to find your Tribe.  Be yourself.  Seriously.  We are waiting for you to show up, and if you don’t come forward in all of your original, crazy offbeat splendor, the world is missing out.  Author Charles Simic wisely said, “He who cannot howl, will not find his pack”.  Howl to the Moon Aries! Arroooooo!

Taurus and Taurus Rising

This month’s Full Moon could present a challenge to you Taurus.  You may come to the realization that someone or something may be blocking your path at work.  It is time to take a stand and show up in the way you want others to see you.  Something in your career reaches a crisis point that forces the right solution.  This may be a realization that you want to work from home.  What is your Calling? What are you truly in your heart of hearts, called to do in this lifetime?  If you give yourself a moment to tune in, this Full Moon could provide the answer.

Gemini and Gemini Rising

The Aquarius Full Moon opens you up to traveling  uncharted terrain, studying a beguiling philosophy, or anything that broadens your mind and quenches your thirst for adventure - both spiritual and mundane.  You have grandiose ideas, and now is the time to find a way to implement them.  You are searching for meaning in your life, and feel drawn to something bigger, better and more enticing just over the horizon.   You have the opportunity to shake yourself free of constraints, and mental bondage right now, opening new vistas before you of unexplored territory.  Say yes to the Quest.

Cancer and Cancer Rising

This Full Moon illuminates what has been hidden or elusive, Cancer.  Something comes to light, either a way to work better with partners or a secret that is better off in the light, where it can be examined, turned over and finally healed. Perhaps you find that resources are better pooled together, and you benefit from the transaction.  A lot of subconscious material can rise to the surface during this lunation.  You can do a great deal of clearing and healing work over the next few days.  Find a safe sanctuary so you can freely process whatever wants to arise.

Leo and Leo Rising

This month’s Full Moon is opposite your Sun, Leo.  This means there could be a tug of war in relationships and intimate partnerships.  Try and hold your ground, but make space for the energy of your partners to show up as well.  Jupiter in your sign for the next year, is a magical elixir in your apothecary that promises you all the good things you crave.  This doesn’t mean you get to be arrogant and demand your own way.  It means that if you do your work, meet others halfway and use your considerable talent, generosity of spirit, and deep creativity, you will succeed in whatever you set out to do.  The lesson here for you is to come from the tremendous heart of the Leo archetype, not the shadow ego self.

Virgo and Virgo Rising

It’s time to cut the ties that have had you bound to any person or situation that has you feeling somehow indentured, Virgo.   Spend sometime reflecting on this, and figure out where you are performing out of a sense of misplaced duty or obligation.  Release the guilt, the feelings of having to “do something” before you can have the good you deserve.  Too much of that and you likely feel exhausted all the time, or you poison yourself with resentment.  Soon, we will be moving into Virgo season, and it will be time for you to arise and come out with a renewed sense of purpose, and grounded ambition.

Libra and Libra Rising

The sweetness of this Full Moon lights up your 5th house of love, creative self-expression, and pleasure.  It comes with a decision that may come to fruition over the next few days.  What’s important to you? What does a fully actualized life look like to you?  You could find yourself making the preliminary steps to facilitate the necessary changes to fulfill your personal vision of the good life. This might feel like a risk, so use common sense and make it a calculated risk.  Make play a priority,  You need to dance, sing, paint, or quilt your way to bliss right now.

Scorpio and Scorpio Rising

This is your chance to dive down deep into the mysterious waters of your subconscious psyche, and see what treasures are down there that you can bring back up with you.  Yes, there could also be strange creatures lurking in the basement, but you’re not one to shy away from the dark, the misshapen or the uncomfortable.  These creatures are constructs of the past that hide in your shadows.  Shame, guilt, grief, and resentment are amongst them. The best way to transform them into alchemical gold is to shine light on them.  Acknowledge and name them.  That way instead of coming through at inopportune times as complexes, they can become allies on your Journey.

Sagittarius and Sagittarius Rising

You are busy as a bee.  Social, enterprising,  and seeking out fresh minds to collaborate with.  A contact might prove to be just the catalyst to launch your big idea.  As curious, excited and energized as you are, there are also realities to contend with.  This is good.  If you face them head on, you will win the day.  You need to be honest with yourself right now.  What serves your higher goals and aspirations?  What is a momentary excitement that actually keeps you from what you really want?  You are notoriously blunt with others, it’s time you to use the same tell-it-like-it-is straight up candor with yourself.

Capricorn and Capricorn Rising

This Full Moon shines in your house of self-esteem, resources and possessions.  Real estate, big purchases and accumulating wealth are all highlighted.  All of these things make you feel more secure, but you will be forced to come to terms with what really gives you a sense of self worth during this Full Moon, Capricorn.  You know what I mean.  That nagging sense that a healthy bank account and a house in the hills secretly doesn’t ever seem to fill.  And, this is Capricorn’s secret.  They work hard, get all the right stuff, and somehow, there is always that hidden place where they are still that awkward kid in their grade 6 photo.  Now is your golden time to figure out what exactly shores up your sense of self worth, and set about attaining it.

Aquarius and Aquarius Rising

This is the only Full Moon all year that takes place in your sign Aquarius!  Use it. Seize it.  It is in your first house, which means it’s all about you.  It’s time to let your hair down and embrace your wildly unpredictable, free spirited, self!  Color outside the lines.  Dare to begin.  You are seriously chomping at the bit to birth this new Self.  Anything or anyone that stands in in your way is in for a big surprise.  Personal accountability is integral.  But, you also have to be accountable to yourself.  If you are not living the life you want, doing your art, or standing up for something your heart resonates with, you’re selling yourself short.  Are you seriously going to sit around twiddling your thumbs and let yourself get away with that?  This Moon says, No way! It’s time to rock it like you own it Aquarius.

Pisces and Pisces Rising

Pay attention to the messages from your dreams.  Your intuition will be turned on full.  You are tuned into the psychic realms and the flourishing night garden of your creative impulses.  Go with the flow of your stream of consciousness.  But, Pisces, it’s also time to get real.  You need to shoulder your responsibilities in such a way that they will support your dreams.  Dreams without support and boundaries dissipate like will-o’ the-wisps, and just like those atmospheric ghost lights, can draw you off the path and into the darkness of the swamp.  Use this Full Moon to see the mile posts on your journey, and pay heed to signs along the way that tell you what is required next to get to your destination.
