A Divine Womb of Light: The Alchemy of the Goddess
A Divine Womb of Light is an exploration of the Sacred Feminine and the application of Her transformative energies. These writings will have the intent and focus of inspiring and quickening within the individual a thirst for deeper connection and opening to the magick and gnosis of the Goddess in all of Her forms. She is the Mother, the Uraeus, the Muse, the Warrior, and the Healer, to name a few. SHE is the cycle of life and death and all that is held between; and my goal is to share the wisdom of her Womb of Light that all may claim their Divine birthright.
The Witch's Year Tarot Spread
The season is upon us and the Witch's New Year is soon at hand. I have gotten in the habit of doing a Tarot Reading at Samhain, aligned with the Sabbats throughout that upcoming year as well as one at the start of the calendar year, aligned astrologically (sharing that nearer to Yule).
The intention and flavor of many of the celebrations surrounding the Sabbats is one of a continued theme or thread of connection of one to the other creating a whole that can be used for magick, growth and deeper insights. Regardless of the theme you follow, that of the god and goddess, the cycles of the seasons, the flow of solar energy, or other-this tarot spread can be modified to align with those intentions.
This spread uses 10 cards- 8 for each of the Sabbats and one for you standing in the Light of your self and another as the polarized opposite of you as Shadow. These two cards indicate the strength and power you wield in both parts of your nature as light and shadow and can be used to infuse in whatever dynamic and dose you choose as the energy of the cards relating to each of the Sabbats is revealed.
Curiosity will probably fuel your desire to reveal all 8 of the Sabbat cards at the onset; so have at it. I am a firm believer in gathering information prior and being able to enter into whatever presents prepared. What I would recommend is that you revisit these cards as you move through the entire year. This is the way I normally move through this spread:
Lay out the cards in the pattern depicted;
1. Start with the two center cards of Light and Shadow and spend some time processing their individual indications and what you perceive their entwined energy represents;
2. In turn, beginning with Card 1 turn over each of the other Sabbat cards and reveal all 8 before looking at each individually;
3. Since you will starting with Card 1 and the place of Samhain, reflect on the meaning of this card and infuse its energy with what you have gleaned of your Shadow and Light Cards;
4. Now, look ahead towards Card 2, the card of Yule/the Solstice. Don't spend too much time with this, just first impressions;
5. Now gathering this information together, what information are you receiving about the tone/theme of this year for you as synthesized whole of Shadow and Light nature of your being and in what way will this current (Samhain's) energy be used towards what you have seen of Yule's gift?
Now, for all of the subsequent readings, you will be adding the benefits of looking back at where you have come from, what you are currently focused on and the sneak peek of where you will be moving. In this case, when you next turn the wheel at Yule and work with the energies of Card 2, you will also re-call the memory of the work that was initiated at the previous Sabbat (Card 1 - Samhain) and the potential of Card 3/Imbolc.
Each Sabbat progresses, using the energy of both the previous work and the potential future to inform the present; all the while you are working to refine where and how much of the Shadow and Light nature are required to navigate this course. If you use this spread over the course of several years, you will learn that some years seem to require more of your hidden self than that of your Light, or vice versa.
One final note of preference and your choice. I use the astrological date of Samhain to begin this work, rather than the more common, Oct. 31st. That particular doesn't really matter as long as you give an entire year to the spread and its work. Some years I have left the spread out on an altar and had a small journal dedicated to the work of the year and its codification on the altar as well. This allowed me the ability to sit in reflection and mediation with the energy of the spread and the outcomes anytime I wished and built the magick emanating from this altar to spread out through all of my workings in a very organic way.
