Tolkien once wrote in a letter to his son that he was "a Hwiccian (of Wychwood) on both sides."*

Curious words, are they not? My mind generated an entire alternate universe in which Tolkien was the granddaddy of Fam-Trad Witches, and all the things in our culture that would be different if it were so.

In Phoenix and On Radio in October

Hear me in October on online radio and at an outdoor in-person event, a booksigning for my new book Asatru: A Beginner's Guide to the Heathen Path. I'm not making a full book tour this year because of the pandemic, but I am venturing one state over to Phoenix, Arizona to hold an outdoor booksigning and storytelling at Fantasia Crystals on October 24 from 5pm-6:30pm. In case of rain the reading room will be available as a backup venue. Books will be available for purchase on the day, and also in advance at the shop.

I'm planning to tell the story of Freya's jewel, Brisingamen. There's a chapter in my unpublished novel Some Say Fire that recounts a version of that myth. The chapter contains a lot of gnosis, and my storytelling will be based on that chapter.

I have a new author site!

My new website includes links to my books, social media, and of course back here to this blog. I'm counting down the days to August 1st, 2020, when my new book Asatru: A Beginner's Guide to the Heathen Path will go live. In the meantime there are 3 places to preorder my book, which are linked on my new site.

My new site is: https://www.erinlaleauthor.com/

Pumping & Churning Out Art

A while back, a good friend of mine posted where he was in overall word count on his book project to his personal Facebook page. Someone thought it was their place to tell him that he should be more concerned about content than quantity, and that he was "in danger of churning out too many books."

"Too many books" was approximately one a year apparently.

I've seen the same criticism leveled at musicians/bands that produce perhaps a CD a year.

I yet to have that same crap thrown my way about my art or more writing - but it could be that they're just not going to say it to my face or post it where I can see it. I imagine it's only a matter of time, especially with how my own publishing schedule seems to look like from the outside.  People do express a bit of incredulity at what I am able to do/create, which can be a bit awkward at times.

LOVE this, Laura! So true. (I'm an obsessive creative who's writing/creating is a part of my spiritual path).
