Western Winds of Change Rite

Gather these herbs and stir together into this highly effective clearing incense:

  • 1 part sage
  • 1 part sandalwood
  • 3 parts myrrh
  • 3 parts copal
  • 3 parts frankincense

This is an optimal mixture of essences to purify your home or sacred working space. Negative energies are vanquished and the path is cleared for ritual. Open windows and doors when you are burning this clearing incense so the "bad energy" can be released outside. It is also advisable to use this clearing incense if there have been any arguments or other energetic disruptions in your home. After a family squabble or, goddess forbid, a break-in, or some incident that makes your office or home or temple space feel violated or less safe, you can dispel the bad with this holy incense.

Soothe-Your-Spirits Self-care Spell

Such earthly elements as simple and salt and pepper can be part of your self-healing, I learned about the strong protective magic of black pepper from the great Scott Cunningham himself .   I recommend this as a rite to ether begin your day with in the soft morning light or at twilight, when the sun is weakening. This will both soothe and raise your spirit, offering quiet  contentment and a fresh perspective.

As the wheel turns to spring, life begins to stir in the soil and earth magic grows more powerful with every day.

Now is the time to sow flower herb or vegetable seeds indoors for abundant new plants in the coming summer. Excellent things to try in a limited space are salads or calendula or nasturtium plants which can be directly sown into small pots and grown on the windowsill if space is short. Allow yourself to experiment and have fun, eagerly awaiting the new shoots and seedlings springing into life.

Thyme for Magic

Known as common thyme, Thymus vulgaris, is anything but common. It is one of the classic herbs in Mediterranean cuisine with a history that dates to ancient times. Used by the Greeks and Romans to preserve meat, the flavor caught on and became an ingredient for a number of dishes. It was also discovered to be a healing antiseptic. In addition to treating a range of ailments, thyme was tossed onto fires to purify areas for ritual.

One of my Cretan friends makes tea of thyme and throumbi (summer savory) for colds and flu. It works! Even thyme alone works.
