How can you tell if it's really a god talking to you, and not, say, your own subconscious mind?

Here's one useful question to ask.

 

The Muslim über-prophet Muhammad was well-known for the self-serving nature of his revelations. Whenever a problem would arise in the early 'umma, Muhammad would go up to the mountain and come down again with a divinely-revealed solution.

Guess who Allah always agreed with?

Muhammad's favorite wife 'Aisha once said to him: Isn't it interesting how Allah always backs you in every argument?

Are You Intuitive or Psychic?

As metaphysical discussions become commonplace, I hear certain terms used interchangeably and the same words used to explain different things. This is a natural progression as we talk about the inexplicable. We are charting new territory. We are going to try out labels and see how they fit.

I adore the courage of so many people who are coming out of their shells and sharing what they once feared to admit. We are meeting each other in beautiful ways, having mind opening dialogues, and making much progress in understanding how the worlds beyond the five senses operate. We have an appreciation for energy. The presence of helping spirits is accepted.

Since this is my first post, I thought it a good idea to introduce myself. I'm Caroline, but have written books under the names Carolina da Silva, Morwyn, and Carol. 

My Brazilian mother, though happy to pass along family traditions, never evinced much interest in Brazilian magickal traditions. When reading novels and essays while studying for my doctorate in Luso-Brazilian Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, I ran across my first references to these traditions, both in literature, music, and in the general culture. This tantalizing information was mostly glossed over by my professors, so it wasn't until I went to Brazil on a Fulbright Dissertation Research Grant to research 19th century Brazilian literature for my thesis that I came to appreciate how magickal traditions and spirituality in general permeates the entire society, no matter the individual's background.
