Author Interview: Morgan Elektra

[Continuing our series of interviews centered around Myths, Moons, and Mayhem, we sit down today with Morgan Elektra.]

BookMusings: Your story, “The Endless Knot,” is set in New Orleans on Halloween. Why that setting? What do you find so appealing about New Orleans?

Morgan Elektra: I've always wanted to visit New Orleans. It's such a beautiful, vibrant, modern city and yet so steeped in history, as well. Even in photos, you can feel the atmosphere. One of my closest friends lives there, and hearing her talk about Halloween has put it at the top of my list of vacation destinations.

BookMusings: What sort of research went into the story? And what is your favorite tidbit of vampire and/or werewolf lore?

Morgan Elektra: Most of the research of the non-fictional variety consisted of researching New Orleans online to cement the picture of where the story was taking place in my head. Then I would ask my friend Anna for real life intel.

When it comes to vampires and werewolves, I've had years and years as a horror fan to experience the lore. My favorite, often forgotten in modern times, vampire myth is the one about how they can't cross running water. It's a means of protection that doesn't require faith, or special weapons.

BookMusings: Where can readers find out more about you and your work?

Morgan Elektra: The best place is my site. It's got all my social media links, info on my various works, and my blog -- where I talk about writing and my personal life. (I'm an open book.)

BookMusings: What other projects are you working on?

Morgan Elektra: I'm nearly finished with my first novel length M/M paranormal romance!

BookMusings: Which book fairs, conventions, or other events will you be attending in the foreseeable future?

Morgan Elektra: I don't currently have plans to attend any author functions until next year at the earliest. For now I'm just focusing on writing more stories!

Rebecca Buchanan is the editor of the Pagan literary ezine Eternal Haunted Summer. She is also the editor-in-chief of Bibliotheca Alexandrina. She thinks it is incredibly unfair that she must work for a living rather than being able to read all day. In her next life, she would like to be a library cat.
