Vine and Ivy: Lush Libra

In the golden days between Mabon, the Fall Equinox, and Samhain, the beauty of Autumn is on display all around us. The trees are ablaze, the harvest is in, there's a festive mood as we head towards Hallowe'en. There's magick in the air, a sort of enchantment. It's intoxicating,

Under Libra;s influence, all things take on a golden glow. Ruled by Venus, Libra awakens at the Autumn Equinox, holding the balance of light and dark in those famous Scales. As a Cardinal sign, Libra issues in many qualities of the season to come. Libra brings the desire for justice, for fairness, for loving connection. We are suspended between the extroverted joys of the ending Summer, and the beginning of the Descent into introspection and quiet. It is this exquisite tension that calls up the magick of this juicy moment of the year.

Venus's ruling presence brings good fortune, abundance, joy, and prosperity. She also brings her desire to connect with another. The motto of Libra is unique among the zodiac, because it does not begin as an “I” statement. “We connect” beautifully defines Libra's focus towards connection, communication, transaction, and intimacy. It prioritizes partnership and relationship, opens the way for collaborations of all kinds, and creates space for all the blessings to be made manifest At the New Moon, the Sun and Moon in Libra were joined by Jupiter, the Great Benefic, whose powers of expansion and exaltation lend themselves to beautifully to Venus's golden touch. Jupiter and Venus in such a harmonious alignment brings great blessings for everyone, if we can remain aware and grateful to all the gifts that are showering down on us.

Libra's focus on aesthetics and creativity make this a perfect time to raise the vibration of our home and work spaces. During Virgo, I often get an itch to deep clean and re-organize my living and work spaces. During Libra, I got a step further, and try to beautify those spaces, make them not just more functional, but more delicious and juicy to be in, in every way. I find myself looking for things and experiences that move me on a deeper level than just the surface.

With the Full moon, we are caught in the tension between sweet Libra and assertive Aries, who counters Libra's emphasis on relationship with single-mindedness and will. How do we balance those two drives in ourselves—our need to claim our space, to assert our identities authentically, and our need to be part of a loving community, where we are loved, held, and seen.

Here are some suggestions for deepening into the energies of Libra under this brilliant full moon. Blessed be!

  • Beautify! Pick a spot in your living space, perhaps the space where you meditate or do ritual, and give it a good deep clean, then remake it as beautiful as you can. Is there some spot in your house that's just a cluttered mess? Take that apart and make it lush and functional.

  • Bring home something beautiful for your living space, like an Autumn bouquet or a piece of art to hang up. This doesn’t have to be expensive, juts a little pop of color and life to light up your space.

  • Up your self-care with body work or massage. Do something nice for your body! Adorn yourself with lovely clothes, jewelry, perfumes, etc.

  • When we get busy and overbooked, we can neglect the simple things that make us happy. Take time to put into the things you love to do, your creative passions, your ambitions. Go deeper into something of interest to you and make a commitment to gain more knowledge and skill in this enterprise.
