The young woman in that figurine isn't doing a facepalm (it's an ecstatic posture) but it was the closest I could come in Minoan art. "Facepalm" is pretty much my mood right now because I've just had to boot yet another round of racists out of my Modern Minoan Paganism discussion group Ariadne's Tribe

Unless you've been on an extreme media fast lately, you're probably aware that there are a lot of right-wing racist (plus other prejudices) type people out there right now, spouting their hateful propaganda and doing their best to convince others to join them. Unfortunately, many of these people have infiltrated Pagan groups in order to expand their recruiting. We hear a lot about this happening with Norse Pagan groups, but it's also happening in Hellenismos and now, Minoan Paganism as well.

I'm in the position of dealing with that age-old paradox: I tolerate everything except intolerance. Ariadne's Tribe is full of people with differing religious backgrounds, different approaches to Minoan Pagan spirituality, and different views of the mythology and our relationship with it. We don't always agree, but we do accept each other as fellow travelers along the path.

The right-wing people who are causing this problem don't generally view themselves as racist. "I'm not racist; I'm right" is a common explanation for their views. Well, they're not right. They're prejudiced. They consider a portion of humanity to be lesser, and that's not acceptable. Some people are open to conversation and are truly willing to listen and learn, but these folks aren't. So I'll continue removing people from my group when I identify them as being holding racist (or homophobic or transphobic or misogynistic) views that they're trying to  spread.

Like our group description says, "Ariadne's Tribe is a welcoming group and Modern Minoan Paganism is a welcoming path, happily open to people of any race, ethnicity, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability level, disability, geographic location, language, education, or socio-economic status. We're all in this together."

In the name of the bee,

And of the butterfly,

And of the breeze, amen.
