Journeys: Thoughts from a Druid Path
Journeys through the world around us, from a Druidic perspective.
Prayers for the Moon
The Moon is a part of our everyday lives. It moves through the sky above and looks down upon us always. The Moon is also an important part of our spiritual lives, and I created these five prayers to commemorate the fiver well-known lunar phases, namely:
New Moon
Druid Moon - 1st Quarter
Full Moon
3rd Quarter Moon
Old Moon
I present these to you now for your enjoyment and practice!
Prayer for the New Moon
The New Moon is born,
She arrives in darkness,
Unseen to the naked eye,
A faint outline in the sky.
Hidden by the Earth Mother,
Protected,
As she wanders in the night,
As the orbs align,
Potential grows,
Seeking the light.
Let us be like the New Moon,
Quiet, but watching,
Eager, and protected,
As one with the Earth.
Prayer for the Druid Moon
The Druid Moon reaches,
Like a sickle in the sky,
Touches the tops of oaks,
As it cuts the night with light.
Like a bowl above the Earth Mother,
Protected,
As she gathers in the night,
The Earth moves gently,
So the light may pool in the night.
Let us be like the Druid Moon,
Bright and reaching,
Our arms open in the night,
Sharing with the Earth below.
Prayer for the Full Moon
The sky opens,
Round, bright, brilliant,
The Moon rules the sky,
In a circular light.
Eye wide open,
Gazing on the Earth below,
All is revealed,
All is in light.
The white light of healing,
Powered by the Sun,
Reflected by the Moon,
Descends upon the Earth.
The rays permeate,
Penetrate,
Radiate,
On every surface.
O Holy Moon,
I stand in awe of your beauty,
And your presence,
In the sky.
Please bring your healing,
And insight,
And strength,
Into our lives this night.
Prayer for the 3rd Quarter Moon
The third quarter moon shows
The quiet side of her face,
The light has passed
From left to right.
Like an eye on the sky,
Close the waking,
Open and full,
Now it begins to close, in wisdom.
21 days and 21 lessons,
The Moon looks upon the earth
With love;
All that was seen,
All that was learned,
Riding high above us,
Bright in the sky.
As the Moon’s light wanes,
The wisdom increases,
The Moon sees all
In the lands down below.
The Moon bathes us in light,
Covering us in a glowing blanket,
Of remembering what was,
And knowing what is coming to be.
Prayer for the Old Moon
The Old Moon appears,
As a slight crescent,
Before the dawn,
Blessing that quiet sky.
The eye almost closed,
The cup now upended,
The time to reflect is at hand
And beckons.
As the Old Moon
Rises higher
Above the horizon,
As the bowl slowly empties,
The light fades to dark.
For the work within that is hidden,
We turn within,
For the work deep inside,
We move our sight inwards.
To the Old Moon,
Let us remember,
The lessons we learned,
As we travelled together this month.
To the Old Moon,
Let us look with wisdom,
Upon what is to be done,
With ourselves and our world.
