Witch Craft: DIY Wreath for the New Year

Oftentimes, your kitchen is the heart of the home. Something about cooking and sharing food brings people together. An herbal wreath hanging on the kitchen door can be a source of love and luck. You’ll need the following for your creation:

  • Freshly cut herbs of your choice
  • A wire wreath frame, available from most craft stores
  • Either string or florist's wire, ribbon, and a hot glue gun

This is truly one of the simplest craft projects you can ever make - simply use the wreath frame as a base, and use string or the florist's wire to anchor the fresh herbs into place. Finish it off with a colorful ribbon, or other magical decorative touches you may want to add.

Abundance Stones for Your Altar

Your altar is the nexus of your magical powers; it is also your medium through which you give gifts to the Roman god of abundance, Jupiter, also known as Jove. Jupiter is a rain and thunder deity who also controls fertility. He will rain abundance down upon you if you gain his favor through ritual observance. His “jovial” qualities include leadership, jollity, generosity, expansiveness, and a royal manner. Your middle finger is your Jupiter finger and you can also increase your fortunes by leaving a ring on your altar overnight and then place it upon the middle finger of either hand. Ideally, for the best result, it will be a green or gold stone such as peridot, tourmaline, or citrine. If you can find a statue or bust of Jove, you should place this symbol on the right side of the altar, accompanied by the image of an eagle, which is the ideal prosperity altar emblem, as the eagle is Jupiter’s bird totem. The eagles of Rome and America are this royal bird of the king of gods. Lapis lazuli, the beautiful blue stone beloved of the Egyptians, is also sacred to Jupiter. The alchemical symbol for this stone is the astrological sign of Jupiter in reverse, and the blue of the lapis stone is associated with the blue of the sky god. You can increase your prosperity by remembering one of the most basic principles of prosperity: By giving, so shall you receive.

Poppy Power Money Magic

The San Francisco Bay Area is magical in spring and summer, with a profusion of poppies growing along the highway and in every available crevice. No wonder California is one of the wealthiest places in the world. We pagans revere poppies for their money magic. If you have a yard, meadow, or any strip of ground you can garden, buy poppy seeds and simply toss them all around. Months later, you will have a wealth of wildflowers.

Moving on with money

When I started the Dirty money blog, I didn't have a money shrine.  I didn't work any money magic, because it all seemed self-referential spellwork to make more money.  I didn't give much away, and I knew nothing of the mystery of the rubber duckie.

More than a year later,my relationship with money has grown.  A lot of that comes from a really excellent money class given by Galina Krasskova, which reawakened the animist in me and helped me connect with money on a spiritual level, while simultaneously reinforcing the rules of how money acts, and how people act around it.  I don't know if she will ever give that class again, but if she does, jump on it, because the information is enough to transform that money relationship.  This is one of those cases where the money spent will return to you many times.

Pagan savings challenge, week thirty-seven: changing money

One of the reasons we fail to save money is because we fear it, and what we fear we don't think about as if that will make the fears -- and their causes -- go away.  To solve this problem in myself, and keep me on track, I am awash in money; I started a money-changing business.  Money changers have a long history, because for every solution money brings in simplifying exchanges, it creates three more for people that have the wrong kind of money.  I deal solely in United States currency, because merchants in my area often don't have the right kind of money to give in change, particularly when banks are closed.

Immersing myself in money forces me to think about money, which is actually as much of a challenge for me as it is for other middle- and lower-class folks whose lives are in many ways defined by the stuff.  It also allows me to engage with money magically, for every exchange is an opportunity to use money's true power.  It makes my every transaction more intentional, and the results are in:  I expected to be struggling to keep up with this challenge by now, but I'm not.
