Fix Your Situation: Practical Glamour

So, generally speaking, right now would be an excellent example about how you should do what I say, not as I do.  Full time job, Jow's about to start nursing school, my book drops in six days, my cat literally just died . . .this would usually be where my house is a mess, my hair is unwashed, I'm eating like a garbage animal, watching crazy amounts of reality tv and the gym is a distant memory.

Except.  I'm not doing those things.

My house is tidy, my hair is washed, I have lipstick on, I'm eating healthy things for the most part, I'm doing yoga and taking walks and my tv intake is minimal except for Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 which is every bit as amazing as Jacob Clifton and Ms. K's groomsmen promised it would be.

So.  It turns out, I give pretty decent advice.  Not the worst thing to learn this close to launch.

Here's how I've been managing:

  1. A very tidy make up vanity area where I can basically blindly reach in for my brow palette, a lipstick and/or gloss and a perfume.  Time to put on: 2 minutes.  Clean make up brushes in case I feel like making an actual effort.
  2. Closet with clothes actually hung up in outfits, not artistically strewn about one's bedroom.  If I collapse into bed too fast the night before, I can reach into this cave of wonders and not look like a mess.  Having a drawer full of leggings and tank tops that go with everything helps this too.  If there is time, selecting these items the night before.  Time to pull together once everything is sorted: 5 minutes.
  3. Meal planning through Pinterest and letting Mormon Mommies make all my hard choices for me.  No matter what I'm trying to do, they will have an answer.  They are currently fixing my daily hair situation.
  4. Actively connecting with other people and allowing loved ones to help.  I know, gross.
  5. Skin care, twice a day.  For me: Say Yes to Cucumbers face cleanser, Murad toner and Clinique Moisture Surge.  Ten minutes total.
  6. My Sunday must, must, must ideally be: yoga (10a with Jennifer) because this gets Jow and I moving and dressed and prevents an intertube k hole.  Jennifer is funny and no bullshit.  She offers a zillion mods to the movements which is key for me because: dumb boobs, dumb hips, dumb fibromyalgia.  I would have quit yoga if not for Jennifer.  Then, brunch out with Jow and sometimes friends.  Then home to organize my clothes, my vanity, my meal planning and my life.  This always takes less time than I think, so there's generally celebration Scrabble and Bloody Marys.  It just has to become a routine.  Once it is established as such, it's much easier to manage.
  7. Bonus points: Try to do some kind of spiritual practice before bed.  This won't be possible v. much, but it will be possible some.  I usually do some kind of version of: japa, gratitude or local astral travel.
  8. Extra super points: Read a few pages of a book.  That doesn't usually happen for me, but I do manage a decent amount of books on cd in the car which is better than no books.

Learn it, live it, love it!
