Natures Finest Medicine - Wheatgrass

While visiting the local Farmers Market today, I noticed a great addition to the growing easy ups. This new vendor just sold freshly grown hers.  You can buy the herb picked or planted,  I was particularly drawn to the Wheatgrass display.  It looked so fresh and healthy I decided to share some of the interesting benefits shared by the vendor.

Wheatgrass is one of the most potently healthy substances on earth. Yet for some reason it is still not mainstream – even though there are thousands of wheatgrass benefits that are so clear and felt so quickly. A few of the benefits really caught my attention. Did you know that Wheatgrass can cause gray hairs to vanish; clear Rosacea; and get rid of bad breath?

During the early 1900's a man named Edmund Bordeaux Szekely discovered an ancient biblical manuscript which he subsequently translated.  It was a remarkable discovery and Szekely was so enthralled with the translation that he formed a society he called the Biogenic Society to promulgate the teaching of this new (old) way of eating.  The main teaching of the Society was “Don't kill your food by cooking it.” and also that “… all grasses are good for man and wheatgrass is the perfect food for man. “ In 1925 Dr. Charles Schnabel began to bring wheatgrass mainstream to scientist, medical doctors and health practitioners. Remember the story of Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible?   He got a little to cocky for his own good so God sent him out to eat grass.  After that he was completely healed and went on to rule a huge kingdom.

Wheatgrass has high amount of antioxidants, and thus helps your body in repairing damaged cells, rejuvenation, and delaying the aging process of skin. You can derive the above benefits by directly applying wheatgrass juice on your skin for 10-15 minutes. It gets easily absorbed by the skin, and provides it with many nutrients.  It is believed that wheatgrass assists in the maintenance of reproductive system in your body. Therefore, one of the wheatgrass health benefits is restoring fertility.  Drinking juice, extracted from fresh wheatgrass, on a regular basis acts as a skin tonic. It lightens the complexion, cures acne and removes scars from acne and other skin diseases.

Wheatgrass benefits you by detoxifying your body. It removes toxic metals such as mercury and cadmium from your body.  It is instantaneously absorbed in the bloodstream and hence acts as a source of immediate energy.

Wheatgrass builds the blood and is almost identical to the hemoglobin molecule. Wheatgrass cleanses the body, the contents of wheatgrass has approximately 100 separate elements that is recognized as a ‘complete food’ that destroys and eliminates free radicals. Organic wheatgrass powders and juices are an extremely effective way of boosting the body’s immune system to fight against and recover from illnesses and ailments. Wheatgrass is a great source of beta carotene, contains most of the B vitamins and vitamins C, E, H and K, and also contains over 90 different minerals and 19 amino acids.

Wheatgrass is essentially an all-around miracle grain and probably nature’s finest medicine.

  For Your Health

This spell is based upon an age-old ritual for good health during for coming year.

You will need: A piece of soft, white chalk;  a white candle; 1/2 a cup of powdered wheat grass (about ½ cup) and a compass

This should be done where in a space where it cannot be disturbed, and you can draw a pentagram on the floor.

1.Stand inside the pentagram after you have drawn it. DO NOT step outside the pentagram until the spell has been completed. Bring all the tools you need inside the circle. You will be lighting the candle while inside the pentagram.

 2. Draw a 3' wide pentagram on the floor.

 3. After you have drawn the pentagram, sprinkle wheatgrass over the pentagram, take care that none fall outside the circle.

 4. Light the candle and hold it in your right hand.  Face East and recite the following invocation three times.

Mother Earth's fires flare, from the earth into the air,
Days of sun bring fields green, water springing forth to clean,
To wash away the old and worn, and leave the dew of summer's morn,
Let no sickness wander near, keep it far away from here!

 5. Once you have spoken this, extinguish the candle BEFORE stepping out of the pentagram.

 6.  Store the candle in a safe place for the next twelve months.

How to powder Wheat Grass:  Powdering wheatgrass is one option for consuming home grown wheatgrass. Once the wheatgrass is ready to harvest, it can then be turned into a powder to be used as you would any other herb in your apothecary.  What you will need to powder the wheat grass:

  • Crop of wheatgrass that is approximately 8 inches tall.
  • Scissors
  • Oven

 Instructions:

Trim a crop of mature wheatgrass (8 inches) to 1/2-inch above the soil. It may take 6 to 9 days for wheatgrass to mature.

  1. Lay the harvested grass blades on a clean baking sheet.
  2. Set the oven temperature to 150 degrees and insert the baking sheet.
  3. Allow the blades to dry out in oven.  After two hours, check to see if the blades are dry and brittle. If so, remove them from the oven. If not, add more time in the oven. Check the progress of the grass blades often so as to avoid scorching.
  4. Grind all of the wheatgrass in a clean coffee grinder once the blades of grass are dry and brittle.
  5. Pour the final product of wheatgrass powder into a storage container so it is ready for future use.
